The Milan Football Association, better known as A.C. Milan or also Milan (AFI /ˈmilan/[5]), is an Italian football club founded in 1899, based in the city of Milan. The team plays in the Serie A of the Italian football championship, where it played almost permanently since its introduction in the 1929-1930 season, in fact, it has participated in 85 single-group Serie A championships out of 87. The debut in the top flight in the period before the single group dates back to 1900.
It is the third team in the world by number of international titles won (18, equal to Boca Juniors and Independiente and behind Real Madrid and Al-Ahly, at 27 and 20 respectively). Its board features international 7 European Cups/Champions Leagues, 2 Cup Cups, 5 European Super Cups, 3 Intercontinental Cups and a FIFA Club World Cup.
While at international level, Milan is the most successful Italian team, the first Italian to have won the European Cup (in 1962-1963) and the second European and first Italian team in terms of the number of European Cup/UEFA Champions League finals played (11)[9], in Italy it is the second most titled club, par with Inter and the shoulders Juventus shoulders shoulders shoulders (56 trophies), having won 30 national trophies 18 championships, 5 Italian Cups and 7 Italian Super Cups.
Overall, with 48 official trophies won (30 national and 18 international), it is the second most titled Italian club behind Juventus (67). It was also the first team to win, in 1991-1992, the Italian single-group championship without suffering losses, equaled by Juventus in 2011-2012.
The club ranked 41st on UEFA's continental ranking, based on UEFA club competitions over the last five years[12] and fourth in the IFFHS ranking of the best European clubs of the 20th century.
